Organic Adventure

Posted by Ferrouz Bousselma on

I know and I have learned over the years, that I am the only one who can take care of myself. If I listen to my body I will know what to do, because guess what our body speaks, we might not listen to it but it does. When you get a rash, vomit or feel nauseous than chances are your body is trying to tell you something.

When I was younger I would occasionally use moisturizer. Why? Because this is what I would see on T.V, Magazines, celebs etc…. I tried many of them, from Chanel to the eight hour cream from Elizabeth Arden, to Shisheido’s magic serum, etc and the response from my body was always the same: PIMPLES!! 4 years ago, I had a gift card for a facial at a very expensive beauty spa on Fifth Avenue and after two hours of “pampering” myself I was punished with two weeks of pimples again! What was wrong? Now I realized how lucky I am because my body responds immediately. I am grateful for the awakening and the knowing.

Would you consciously spread your pretty face with toxic chemicals that might be carcinogen, knowing that the skin absorb anything that touch its surface?

Truth is that our body is so well engineered that we don’t really need to moisturize if we drink and eat well than our skin will take care of the rest!

However if you feel your skin need a little extra hydration, my little secret is natural oil. I usually alternate between Hemp seed oil, which is pressed from the seeds of the hemp plant. It is non-greasy, anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and a natural skin softer. And Wheat Germ oil which also has many benefits, it give natural energy to your body since it’s full of vitamins A, D and E, a great moisturizer when your skin feels dry and it has antioxidant. I also mixed them with other oils to make my homemade natural SPF.

If YOU care, information is everywhere. My go to sources are “The green beauty guide” by Julie Gabriel I keep looking into it as it has an alphabetical list of harmful chemicals and I love the DYI recipes. The Environmental Working Group http://www.ewg.org/ their mission is to empower people to live healthier in a healthier environment. I like to check their consumer guide from time to time and Safe Cosmetic http://www.safecosmetics.org/ where you can find out more about the companies, reports, lists etc…..
